Whole Foods Market Suburban Prototype*

Sugar Land, Texas

The Whole Foods Market shown is designed as a prototype structure for WFM’s effort to enter the suburban grocer market. This facility sits in the Lake Pointe Village center in Sugar Land Texas, southwest of Houston. It includes outdoor dining and recreation areas adjacent to the in-house restaurant and towards the rear of the center which faces Oyster Creek. The signature boat-shaped roof was intended to give the new stores a clear distinction from other competitors in the boutique grocer market. It also highlights many of the interior food stations typical in a Whole Foods Market. The project followed Whole Foods’ requirements for sustainable design.

*The project was designed by Warren Johnson while he was a Design Principal at HAA.
